Signing a document your agent sent you
Your agent sent you a private link to a document that needs your signature. You read it and sign it in your browser. Nothing to install and no account to create.
What you will see
- The page names the document, shows who it is from, and confirms which person it is addressed to.
- The full document is on screen. Read it. Every page is there.
- Fields that need you are marked. Fill in anything asked of you.
- Draw or type your signature, tick the box agreeing to sign electronically, and submit.
Your link is yours alone. Do not forward it. Anyone who opens it can sign as you.
After you sign
The page confirms your signature straight away and tells you whether anyone else still has to sign. Ask your agent for the finished copy once everyone has signed. They can download the completed document, with its audit page attached, and send it to you.
Can I reopen the link later?
Yes, and you can open the document from it. Note that what the link shows you is the document as it was sent, not the fully signed version. Your agent has the finished copy.
Is an electronic signature really binding?
Yes. Before you sign, you agree that your electronic signature has the same legal effect as a handwritten one, and that a copy will be kept with a record of the signing.
What gets recorded about me?
The time you opened the document and the time you signed, your name, your email address, your role on the document, your IP address, your browser, and the exact wording you agreed to. All of it is printed on an audit page attached to the final PDF, along with a fingerprint of the file so anyone can tell it has not been altered since.
What if I do not want to sign?
Decline it on the same page. You can say why. Your agent is told, the document closes, and nobody else is asked to sign it.
My link says it is no longer available.
A signing link runs out after a while, and your agent can also cancel a document. Ask them to send you a fresh one.
My agent handed me their tablet to sign on.
The page will say so, and it will name who is hosting. Only the person the document names should apply the signature. The session is recorded as signed in person, and the device details on the record are your agent's rather than yours.
