Opt-outs and spam

Opt-outs are handled the moment they arrive, with no action from you. Spam is filed out of your way but stays reachable.

Someone texts STOP

STOP, UNSUBSCRIBE, QUIT, CANCEL, END, and OPTOUT are matched exactly, before anything else happens to the message. That person is added to your suppression list in the same instant the text is recorded, they get the standard confirmation back, and every REHL send path is closed to them from then on. You do not have to do anything, and you cannot accidentally undo it by replying.

START, YES, and UNSTOP put them back. HELP returns your brokerage's identity and changes nothing.

Someone unsubscribes from an email

Every marketing email has a working unsubscribe link. Clicking it writes the same suppression entry. Same result, different door.

Opt-outs and the temperature score

An opt-out does two separate things, and it is worth knowing both. It stops REHL contacting that person, which is the part the law cares about. It also cools their temperature score, so they stop ranking at the top of your pipeline and the bell stops escalating someone who asked to be left alone.

  • Texted STOP: -50, held at full strength for a year.
  • Clicked the unsubscribe link in an email: -40, held at full strength for a year.
  • Wrote back in their own words asking you to stop: -100, permanent, and it floors the score outright, because that is aimed at the relationship rather than at one channel.

All three are written automatically, in the same instant as the suppression entry, and each one lands only once per person no matter how many times they text STOP or click the link. You do not log anything yourself. The score can still take a moment to catch up, because it is recalculated just after the opt-out is recorded rather than in the same breath.

The suppression is the permanent part. The score effect is not. A STOP or an email unsubscribe keeps its full weight, with no fading, for as long as it sits inside the scoring window of one year, and then it stops counting. So someone who shut off one channel a year ago but has kept browsing can warm back up in your pipeline. A written do-not-contact request is the exception: it floors the score and is never dropped for age.

The score and the suppression list still answer different questions. The score is your read on how interested someone is. Whether you may contact them is only ever answered by the suppression list. A score that has not finished cooling never authorizes a send, and neither does one that warmed back up a year later. The suppression entry stands until that person opts back in, whatever the score is doing.

Spam

REHL AI tags obvious junk as spam and there is a Spam filter to review it. It is filed, not deleted, and never hidden from you. Mail from known bulk senders is caught before REHL AI even looks, which keeps the cost down.

Opt-out is a tag, not a filter. There is no Opt-out button next to Spam. You will see the tag on the thread row itself.
